Did you know that the trail traces the route of the “Silver Comet” passenger train line that operated from
1947 to 1969. It is fully paved rail-trails built on abandoned railroad lines and only has a 2% grade elevation
which makes it a great place to jog and exercise. The Silver Comet Trail Ad

After the Department of Transportation (DOT) purchased the land in 1992, construction on the trail began in 1998 and the rail-to-trail conversion was completed in 2008.

Did you know that if you really want to bike ride and do not own a bike, at mile marker 4.2, visit The Silver Comet Depot which rents, sells and repairs bicycles. The Depot is located at 4342 Floyd Road, Mableton, GA 30126.
